PV Panels

The Eden Leisure Group has donated over 140 photovoltaic (PV) panels to the University of Malta’s Institute for Sustainable Energy.

Said panels had been installed at the group’s office for more than eight years, however they still have another 20 years of useful lifetime.

“This is an excellent sustainable initiative, as while these panels are a few years old, they will still work for decades and require no new use of energy or resources as is the case for new panels,” Luciano Mule Stagno, Director at the Institute for Sustainable Energy, said.

“The mantra of sustainability is ‘reduce, reuse, recycle,’ in that order. This is a good example of ‘re-use’,” the Director continued.

Over their lifetime, the panels are expected to generate 55,000kWh of electricity every year, which equates to around 35 tonnes of CO2 avoided. This is set to cover most, if not all, of the Institute’s energy needs. The panels will be installed in the coming months.

Based in Marsaxlokk, the Institute for Sustainable Energy focuses its teachings on the analysis of energy use, determining feasible measures to conserve energy, and applying renewable sources of energy.

This is far from Eden Leisure Group’s first foray into CSR, with the group’s Managers and Director embarking on a day of volunteering at Id-Dar tal-Providenza just last month.
