Irrelevant of their geographical location, HR departments from all over the globe tend to experience a number of common realities.

Taking to social media, Calvin Cassar, HR Manager at EPG Financial Services Ltd, speaks of his experience handling different offices and different employees in various countries.

Despite such changes in the environment, the HR Manager confirms that no matter where in the world you might be, you must keep in mind that you are ultimately always handling people.

In light of this, Mr Cassar stresses the importance of three factors which, he believes, HR professionals around the world should keep in mind.

Having a good “knowledge of employment law and regulations relevant to the countries of operation” is one of the first things HR professionals should keep in mind, Mr Cassar says.

“Having professional legal assistance is critical to help you understand law, but also its practical application on a day-to-day basis.”

Secondly, Mr Cassar says, one shouldn’t underestimate the importance of recognising cultural differences.

“Work practices and behaviours vary across countries, and it is ok to acknowledge these and, when possible, celebrate them.”

Lastly, Mr Cassar stresses the importance of “keeping HR personal.”

“What we do is about people and culture, and there is no better way in building this than through presence and interaction,” he concludes.
