Malta International Airport (MIA) received the Malta Stock Exchange (MSE) ‘Company of the Year Award 2020’ for corporate governance and its financial performance in 2019.

The awards, which returned after a hiatus, saw five business and finance-related honours get handed out to companies. Finance Minister Clyde Caruana, MSE CEO Simon Zammit, and MSE Chairman Joseph Portelli presided over the ceremony.

“Receiving recognition for a record financial year at a time when we are trying to recover from the blows dealt by the pandemic may appear to be jarring,” MIA CEO Alan Borg said.

“However, today’s award is a celebration of years of growth, which ultimately helped us face the unprecedented challenges brought by COVID-19, and a reminder of our responsibility, as a listed company, an employer, and a key player in the tourism industry, to keep working towards achieving a sustainable recovery,” Mr Borg continued.

The MIA CEO dedicated the award to the memory of airport employee Patrick Demanuele, who passed away just weeks before his thirtieth anniversary within the company’s Security Services Department.

Mr Borg went on to thank all members of the MIA team for their steadfast commitment to achieving both the company’s financial and non-financial targets, particularly those related to service excellence and sustainability.
